Traditional software is invisible to AI agents

Over the past two years, the way people find software and products has changed. Instead of opening a search engine, comparing providers and clicking their way through a website, more and more users are putting their enquiries directly to an AI assistant: “Which accounting software is right for my limited company?”, “Find me a tradesperson for next week”, “How much does a hotel in Munich cost at the weekend?” – and expect a direct, actionable answer.

This raises a new question for businesses: How does an AI agent actually find my software or product – and how can it not only recommend it, but also use it directly?

Traditional software integration works via APIs. This is ideal for machine-to-machine communication, which is set up once and then runs for years. AI agents, however, work differently: an agent decides which tools to call upon at the moment the user makes a query. It must not only know that an interface exists – it must also understand what it does, what parameters it expects and when it makes sense to use it. A traditional REST or GraphQL API does not provide this information in a form that the agent can interpret.

The result: even a superbly documented API often remains invisible to AI agents in practice. The software is not recommended because the models either do not know it exists or do not understand exactly when it would be the appropriate response. It is precisely this gap that the Model Context Protocol (MCP) fills.

Our MCP services

We support you every step of the way, from strategic use case analysis through to development and integration into the leading AI platforms.

MCP Consultancy & Architecture

Before writing a single line of code, we clarify the strategic questions: Which of your users’ actions are suitable as MCP tools? What should be highlighted, and what should be deliberately kept out of the spotlight? What does a secure, GDPR-compliant architecture look like, and which platforms are best suited to your target audience? We analyse your use cases, assess the maturity of your existing APIs and design an architecture that is cross-platform compatible and safeguards your data sovereignty.

MCP Server Development

We build production-ready MCP servers that make your proprietary data, internal APIs and business logic available as semantically understandable tools and resources. We translate your existing functions so that AI models can understand, recommend and correctly invoke them – including clear tool descriptions, robust parameter structures, authentication and error handling. If you already operate a modern, well-documented API, with our support you can have a production-ready MCP server up and running in just a few weeks.

MCP integration into products and platforms

A well-built MCP server forms the foundation for all major AI platforms. We bring your integration to where your target audience is – as a ChatGPT app (OpenAI Apps SDK), Claude Connector (Anthropic), Gemini Extension (Google) or for Perplexity. On request, we develop MCP apps: instead of text-only responses, custom UI components – product cards, carousels, booking buttons, forms – are embedded directly into the AI conversation, featuring your company’s branding. This transforms “I’ve found three hotels” into an interactive, bookable interface within ChatGPT or Claude.

Operations & Infrastructure

An MCP server is a production service that must remain reliably accessible. We take care of the hosting, operation and maintenance of your MCP infrastructure – either in an EU data centre or on your own hardware. This includes scaling to accommodate growing usage, monitoring and logging, authentication and access management, security updates, and the ongoing adaptation of tools and resources as your APIs or MCP platforms evolve. This ensures your integration remains stable, secure and up to date at all times.

Areas of application: Where MCP creates tangible added value

In our client projects, we currently regard these areas as particularly relevant:

E-commerce and marketplaces

Instead of hoping that users will visit their own website, products are presented directly within the AI conversation. A request such as “buy me XY” becomes an embedded buy button, without users having to switch platforms.

Booking and reservation platforms

Hotels, restaurants, garages, hairdressers: wherever availability is requested, the agent can show free slots; users simply click ‘book’ directly in the chat, and the booking is processed securely via the MCP connection.

SaaS and business tools

Whether it’s CRM, project management or accounting software: where staff are already working with AI assistants, MCP integration is the next logical step. “Show me all the tasks due this week” becomes an interactive map with drag-and-drop functionality, directly within the AI of your choice.

B2B data providers and research tools

Anyone who owns high-quality data or content can make it available via MCP as a ‘resource’ for AI models – and benefit from the growing use of AI as a research tool, without losing their own distribution channel.

Healthcare and regulated sectors

This is where MCP is particularly interesting, because the link between the AI model and the line-of-business system can be made authenticated, auditable and EU-compliant – unlike with model training, the data provided via MCP does not end up in models in an uncontrolled manner.

Process automation and internal workflows

Autonomous agents handle recurring processes such as approvals, onboarding and reporting. Thanks to MCP, they can access relevant systems directly and initiate the necessary steps independently – with controlled, traceable access.

Our approach – How we develop your MCP integration

From AI consultancy through to final implementation – we support you through every stage of MCP development:

✓  AI Consultancy & Use Case Analysis: We identify which actions and content are suitable as MCP tools and resources, and prioritise them according to their benefits and the effort involved.
Architecture & Scope: We define what is to be exposed, clarify authentication, data flow and GDPR requirements, and specify the target platforms.
Server development: We build the MCP server based on your existing APIs, with clear, semantic tool descriptions and robust error handling.
Integration & Testing: We implement the integration on the target platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity), develop MCP app UI components where required, and test the behaviour under real-world agent conditions.
Go-live & optimisation: We support day-to-day operations, optimise Discovery and tool descriptions, and expand the integration in stages.

Security & Data Protection: MCP – GDPR-compliant and based in the EU

MCP itself does not impose any requirements regarding where the data is stored – the MCP server can run on a US cloud, a European cloud or your own hardware. Which data is processed and under what conditions is entirely your responsibility. This presents an opportunity: even if the AI model on the other end (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) runs with a US provider, your data processing can be fully EU-compliant.

  • Data sovereignty & EU hosting – The MCP server is located in a German or EU data centre or on your own infrastructure.
  • Controlled data flow – The data flowing to the model via the MCP connection can be controlled and restricted to what is strictly necessary.
  • Authentication & auditability – Access is authenticated via a European identity management system and remains traceable.
  • Privacy by Design – We design the architecture with data protection in mind from the outset, rather than adding it as an afterthought.

We have demonstrated in several projects that an MCP-based integration can be operated in full compliance with the GDPR on the end-customer side, despite the use of US-based models, provided the architecture is designed with this in mind from the outset.

FAQ – MCP Development

If you still have questions, you will find the most important answers summarized here.

What is the difference between a traditional API and the MCP?

plus
plus

Traditional APIs are designed for rigid machine-to-machine communication. The Model Context Protocol also provides semantic descriptions – this enables AI agents not only to retrieve the tools, but also to independently understand when and how to use them to resolve a user’s query.

What exactly is an MCP app?

plus
plus

An MCP app is the next stage in the evolution of the MCP server. It not only provides structured text data, but also embeds its own interactive UI components – such as booking buttons, product cards or forms – directly into the chat interface of platforms such as ChatGPT or Claude.

How long does an MCP project take?

plus
plus

That depends very much on the maturity of your existing APIs. If you have a modern, well-documented backend architecture, you can have a production-ready MCP server up and running in a matter of weeks. If you need to start from scratch, you should allow for more time – and it’s best to get started as soon as possible.

Is the use of MCP compliant with data protection regulations under the GDPR?

plus
plus

Yes. The MCP server can be hosted on your own infrastructure or in an EU data centre. You retain full data sovereignty and have precise control over exactly which data is authenticated and sent to the AI models, limited to what is strictly necessary.

Which AI models support the Model Context Protocol?

plus
plus

MCP was originally developed by Anthropic and has quickly become the industry standard. It is now supported by virtually all major platforms, including ChatGPT (OpenAI), Claude (Anthropic), Gemini (Google) and Perplexity.

Is MCP also worthwhile for start-ups?

plus
plus

Yes. Unlike the App Store model, the investment threshold is low: anyone with a robust API can get started with a manageable amount of effort and gradually expand their strategic levers – MCP apps, discovery optimisation. Those who invest early build up a distribution channel that competitors will only be able to catch up with later at considerable extra cost.

Get your software ready for the AI era

We are convinced that MCP will become for software what the App Store model was for mobile software 15 years ago – the standard distribution channel for a new generation of users. Those who invest early will build up a position that will be difficult to catch up with later on. Let’s arrange a free initial consultation to discuss which MCP strategy is right for your product.
